4 Cable Method

As you can see in the above picture showing the 4CM general scheme, the guitar should be connected to the POD (1st cable), the POD SEND output should be connected to the amp front panel input (2nd cable), the amp SEND output should be connected to the POD RETURN input (3rd cable), and finally the POD standard output should be connected to the amp RETURN input (4th cable).

Then you need to place the FX LOOP block in the virtual chain, and it should be placed after the virtual FXs which you want in front of your amp (like wah, overdrive, etc.) and before the virtual FXs which you want in the FX LOOP of your amp (like delay, reverb, etc.).

Following the 4CM you get the full contribution of your amp (pre-amp + power-amp) plus the POD FXs..

If leaving the cable connections as they are, you use instead a patch without a FX LOOP block in the virtual chain, the pre-amp part of your amp will be bypassed, in which case you might want to activate in its place one of the pre-amp models included in the POD.

POD settings for the 4CM:
- the FX LOOP switch on the rear panel of the POD should be set to STOMP

- the 1/4" OUT switch near the pedal of the POD should be set to LINE

- if needed you can lower the level of the SEND output signal, and/or increase the level of the RETURN input signal..

beware that if you use the single input approach (ie with input2 set to an unused source) the SEND output signal needs to be boosted around 6dB, to do so you can use the mixer block or the STUDIO EQ FX placed just before the FX LOOP block, basically boosting the signal going through the FX LOOP input)..

Considerations

- the only way to get a transparent signal when bypassing all the POD effects is by setting the patch impedance parameter to 1 MΩ or 3.5 MΩ instead of leaving the default setting AUTO, otherwise if at the beginning of the chain there is a fuzz or other FX with a low impedance value the bypassed signal will be darkened
