Dual amp stereo patches always sound different when used in mono

Post by hurghanico »

One-instrument-dual-amp patches sound in a certain way until the output is stereo, ie keeping a certain separation between the L and R channels..

As soon as you sum to mono the 2 channels L and R eg by connecting just one of the two 1/4" jack outputs (which thing makes the POD summing stereo signals to mono automatically) or by placing an active mono FX (eg a noise gate) after the mixer block, the resulting mono tone will be quite different than the stereo one (and often in a bad way), and the reason is due to out of phase relationships which occur between the 2 channels summed into a mono signal..

Therefore, as an example, if you download a one-instrument-dual-amp patch, and when you use it you connect just one jack cable to the POD output, the result will be quite different than the intended one by its author (unless he/r made the patch with the POD running in mono, not as likely I would say).
