FX Return Input
FX Return Input
Using the FX Return as an Input greatly reduces the dulling, tone suck compared to Guitar In. I've scoured the forums and no one seems to mention this. Is it worth recommending?

Re: FX Return Input
Welcome to the forum frandifer!
Actually the tone dulling is due to the input impedance value used by the device.. and certain impedance (low) values can make the tone darker and weaker..
Only into the GUITAR IN input there is a true (ie not modeled) analog impedance circuit, which changes its impedance value depending on the typical value of the first effect (on or off) in the chain if the per-patch impedance setting is set to AUTO, otherwise its impedance value is set to the fixed value set into the patch regardless of what is the first effect in the chain..
To avoid the signal tone dulling of the GUITAR IN input especially when the FX are bypassed, the patch impedance setting should be set to 1 or 3.5 MΩ..
FYI all the POD inputs other than GUITAR IN (RETURN included) use 1 MΩ fixed impedance, therefore they behave all the same (no tone dulling)..
If you do not want to manually change the GUITAR IN impedance value for each patch, you can also set it so that its value is global, ie affecting all patches in the same way automatically

Hurghanico, does this include the VDI input? Just curious as it's come up in the Line 6 forums also. Thanks!hurghanico wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 10:25 amFYI all the POD inputs other than GUITAR IN (RETURN included) use 1 MΩ fixed impedance, therefore they behave all the same (no tone dulling)..

Re: FX Return Input
The VDI input is not affected at all by impedance, at the end when you connect a Variax guitar to the VDI it has the same effect as you were connecting a regular guitar directly to an amp (with a typical 1 MΩ impedance at its input), so not tone dulling.jakeman19 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 9:20 pmHurghanico, does this include the VDI input?
